The devastating floods, triggered by a significant glacial collapse near the Tibet border, sent torrents of water surging through the Bhote Koshi and Lende Khola rivers, eventually overwhelming the Trishuli River. For Koirala, the disaster is not merely a headline; it is a recurring nightmare for a nation already weary from past calamities.

During her address, Koirala struggled to hold back tears, often pausing to compose herself. Reflecting on her experience during the aftermath of Nepal’s major earthquake years ago, she expressed a sense of paralyzing helplessness.

“Why does our country face such frequent disasters?” Koirala asked, her voice trembling. “Sometimes an earthquake strikes and families burn; other times, such catastrophic floods arrive, leaving behind the suffering of thousands of people. When the earthquake struck, I went to Sindhupalchok. I saw those collapsed homes, their shattered worlds. I don’t even have the courage to go to Rasuwa to see it.”

She questioned whether the recurring destruction was a consequence of human negligence or natural volatility, pleading, “Can the pain not be lessened? Please, God, can we have less pain?”

Despite her anguish, the actor emphasized the resilient spirit of the Nepalese people, noting that while the road to recovery is long, the country has no choice but to “collect all our strength and take baby steps forward.”
