Coal India Opens Objection Window for Management Trainee Exam; Results Expected Soon

Coal India Limited (CIL) has officially commenced the response query and objection management process for candidates who participated in the Management Trainee (MT) Computer-Based Test (CBT) held on August 24, 2026. This critical phase allows applicants to cross-verify their performance against the preliminary answer keys and raise formal objections where necessary.

The objection portal went live on August 30, 2026, at 10:00 AM and will remain accessible to candidates until September 3, 2026, at 11:55 PM. According to the official notification, all challenges must be submitted exclusively through the individual candidate login portal; objections received via any other communication channel will not be accepted.

Reviewing the Answer Key

Candidates are encouraged to log in to the portal using their individual credentials to review their recorded responses. The objection facility is designed to ensure transparency, allowing applicants to dispute questions they believe to be incorrect. Once the window closes, a panel of subject matter experts will review the submissions. Any valid challenges will be incorporated into the final answer key, which will serve as the basis for calculating final scores and compiling the merit list.

Timeline for Results and Next Steps

The recruitment process is moving at a steady pace. Following the expert review period, which is scheduled for the first week of September, the final results, along with the scorecards and a comprehensive merit list, are expected to be released in the second week of September.

Successful candidates whose roll numbers appear on the merit list will proceed to the next stages of the recruitment cycle: document verification and the Initial Medical Examination (IME). These mandatory steps are slated for late September or early October. Candidates are advised to keep their original certificates and necessary documentation ready for the verification process at designated Coal India locations.

High Competition for 660 Vacancies

This year’s recruitment drive has seen significant interest, with 129,870 candidates vying for 660 Management Trainee positions across various core disciplines. The competition is particularly intense in the Civil, Systems, and Mechanical engineering streams, which attracted 48,414, 42,678, and 38,778 applicants, respectively.

Exam Structure and Qualifying Criteria

The CBT consisted of two papers, each carrying 100 marks, for a total of 200 marks, with a time limit of 180 minutes. Given the multi-slot examination format, Coal India will utilize statistical normalization to standardize raw scores before preparing the final merit list.
