Acclaimed Director Na Hong-jin’s Sci-Fi Thriller ‘HOPE’ Sets September 25 Release Date in India
After a decade-long hiatus from feature filmmaking, visionary South Korean director Na Hong-jin is set to make a triumphant return with his latest masterpiece, HOPE. The sci-fi action thriller, which has already captivated global audiences and festival circuits, is officially slated for a grand theatrical release across India on September 25, 2026.
A Global Cinematic Event
HOPE boasts an impressive, star-studded ensemble cast, blending the best of South Korean talent with international stars. The film features Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Hoyeon, alongside Hollywood heavyweights including Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender.
Following its prestigious world premiere at the 79th Cannes Film Festival—where it competed for the coveted Palme d’Or—the film solidified Na Hong-jin’s status as a cinematic powerhouse, marking his fourth consecutive feature to be selected for the festival. The project has already proven its commercial might, securing an opening day record in South Korea for 2026 with over 330,000 admissions.
A Chilling Story of Survival
Set in the remote village of Hope Harbor near the Demilitarized Zone, the film chronicles the harrowing aftermath of a mysterious creature sighting. As the residents grapple with the unknown, the village descends into chaos, forcing local authorities to confront a rapidly escalating threat.
Director Na Hong-jin described his creative vision for the project: “With HOPE, I wanted to create a film that begins with the primal fear of encountering an unknown creature and gradually expands into a story about survival, human instinct, and the consequences of fear.”
Reaching Indian Audiences
To ensure the film reaches a wide and diverse demographic, Star Entertainment is spearheading its distribution across the country. In a major move for the pan-Indian market, the production will be available in five languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Korean.
Jiten Hemdev, MD and CEO of Star Entertainment Pvt Ltd., expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s local debut. “We are thrilled to bring Na Hong-jin’s HOPE to Indian audiences,” Hemdev stated. “The film’s unique blend of sci-fi, atmospheric tension, and high-octane action, coupled with such an extraordinary international cast, makes it a cinematic experience that demands the big-screen treatment.”
As anticipation builds, cinephiles across the country are preparing for what promises to be one of the most ambitious and critically acclaimed cinematic releases of the year. HOPE is scheduled to hit Indian cinemas on September 25, 2026.
