Akshay Oberoi Addresses ‘Toxic’ Online Leak, Urges Fans to Support Theatrical Experience
The recent release of the highly anticipated Kannada action thriller Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has been clouded by reports of the film appearing on piracy websites shortly after its theatrical premiere. Amid growing industry concerns regarding digital theft, actor Akshay Oberoi, who portrays the character of Tony in the film, has broken his silence on the matter, offering a measured perspective on the unfortunate situation.
A Narrow Escape from Pre-Release Piracy
While news of a leak is never welcome for a film crew, Oberoi expressed a sense of relief that Toxic managed to remain secure until after it reached the silver screen. In a recent interaction with Bollywood Bubble, the actor admitted he was initially unaware of the security breach.
“Some films have been leaked even before they hit the screens. But at least it only leaked post-coming out in the cinema,” Oberoi noted. He went on to highlight the nightmarish reality many filmmakers face, where sensitive data—such as hard disks containing final cuts—is leaked from studios, rendering a film vulnerable before its official release.
“It is terrifying,” he added. “I feel immensely bad for the producer, the actors, and so many people who put so much hard work [into the project]. Thank God that didn’t happen with us.”
A Strategy of Silence
The actor also shed light on why the production team maintained a mysterious silence throughout the film’s promotional campaign. He revealed that the decision to withhold plot details and avoid extensive interviews was a calculated move to combat the growing threat of piracy.
“That’s also why everyone is so fiercely protective. Like, we didn’t talk about the film or the story at all. If you notice, no one gave any interviews,” Oberoi explained, emphasizing that such measures are now necessary to preserve the sanctity of the cinematic experience.
An Appeal to Audiences
Beyond addressing the leak, Oberoi issued a heartfelt plea to fans, urging them to watch the movie in theaters. He stressed that witnessing Toxic on the big screen is the only way to truly honor the massive effort and technical prowess invested in the production.
