Spiritual Drama ‘Hanuman Ansh’ Defies Odds to Cross ₹50 Crore at the Box Office
In a remarkable display of audience resonance, the devotional drama Hanuman Ansh has emerged as a sleeper hit, officially surpassing the ₹50 crore mark at the Indian box office. Since its theatrical debut on August 7, the film—which chronicles the life and spiritual journey of the revered Neem Karoli Baba—has maintained a steady and impressive momentum.
An Unlikely Success Story
According to data released by Cinepolis India, which served as the exclusive distributor for the project, the film’s trajectory is a testament to the power of word-of-mouth. Initially opening on approximately 250 screens, the movie garnered ₹90 lakh during its first week.
While the screen count was consolidated to roughly 40 by the second week, the film’s performance saw a dramatic shift. As the footprint tightened, per-screen collections nearly tripled compared to the opening week. This growing public interest fueled a surge in earnings, with the film pulling in approximately ₹10.5 crore in its third week before officially crossing the ₹50 crore threshold in its fourth week.
Artistic Vision and Inspiration
Hanuman Ansh is written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi and produced under the banners of SWAMbhu Media Network and Holy Cow Home Productions. The narrative is deeply rooted in Chaturvedi’s own literary work, Detour: That Changed My Life, which explores the profound impact of Neem Karoli Baba on those he encountered. The film highlights the spiritual leader’s life-long mission of serving humanity through selfless love and divine blessings.
The film features compelling performances by leads Chandan K. Anand and Purnima Tiwari, who bring the atmospheric, devotional tone of the story to life.
Expanding Horizons
Following its sustained success in India, the makers have confirmed plans to take the spiritual journey to a global audience. The Hanuman Ansh global release is scheduled for September 11, where it aims to replicate its domestic success in international markets.
As the film continues its theatrical run, its performance serves as a reminder of the enduring appeal of spiritual narratives that focus on empathy, devotion, and the human condition.
