Hovione Taps Industry Veteran Stefan Doboczky to Spearhead Next Phase of Growth

Hovione Holding AG has officially announced a major leadership transition, naming Stefan Doboczky as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2027. Doboczky, who has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Hovione since 2024, will vacate his current board position to focus on the operational helm of the global pharmaceutical manufacturing firm.

This appointment follows the decision of former CEO Dr. Jean Luc Herbeaux, who stepped down from the role in May 2026. The shift signals a new chapter for the company, as it looks to leverage Doboczky’s extensive industrial and executive background to navigate the evolving global pharmaceutical landscape.

Doboczky brings a wealth of relevant experience to the role, marking a significant return to the pharmaceutical sector. Early in his career, he spent over 17 years at Royal DSM, where he held several leadership positions, eventually joining the Executive Board. During his tenure there, he was instrumental in managing the group’s global pharmaceutical portfolio and spearheading growth initiatives in the Asian markets.

In the years following his time at DSM, Doboczky built an impressive resume leading various industrial organizations, including Lenzing AG, Heubach GmbH, and Borealis AG. His most recent role involved serving as Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board for the combined entity of Borouge International, following the merger of Borealis, Borouge, and NOVA Chemicals. According to the company, Doboczky will formally relinquish his current responsibilities on October 1, 2026, though he has committed to remain available for a six-month period to ensure a seamless transition for his successor.

An academic by training, Doboczky holds a Master’s degree in technical chemistry and a doctorate in natural sciences from the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien). Additionally, he possesses an MBA from the renowned IMD business school in Lausanne, Switzerland.

“I am honored to take on the role of CEO at Hovione and to move from my role as Chairman of the Board into the operational leadership of the company,” Doboczky stated following the announcement. “I look forward to working closely with Hovione’s global leadership team and the Board to strengthen our international presence, drive innovation and create sustainable value for our customers, partners and shareholders.”

The leadership change comes at a pivotal time for Hovione, which continues to expand its footprint in the North American market. The company recently completed a major expansion of its manufacturing facility in East Windsor, New Jersey, reinforcing its capacity to meet rising demand for pharmaceutical development and production services. As Doboczky prepares to assume his new duties next spring, the industry will be watching to see how his strategic vision shapes the next phase of growth for the organization.
