Shadows in the Park: 90-Minute Trail Leads to Ralla Execution

Merseyside Police have released new CCTV footage in an urgent appeal for information regarding the 2024 murder of 19-year-old Ellis Cox. Despite ten arrests having been made since the investigation began, no one has yet been charged in connection with the fatal shooting.

Ellis was murdered on June 23, 2024, on the Liver Industrial Estate in Aintree. He had been riding his bike with four friends when they were intercepted at approximately 10:50 p.m. by between one and three men traveling on two electric bikes. One of the assailants opened fire, discharging three shots. Ellis, who was attempting to flee on his pedal bike, was struck in the back just minutes from his home near the Liverpool Loop Line, locally known as the “Ralla.”

While investigators have confirmed that Ellis had no links to criminal activity, they noted that some of his associates were involved in local street-level drug dealing. The victim’s family remains convinced that individuals with crucial information have withheld it, effectively shielding the perpetrators from justice. To encourage witnesses to come forward, a substantial reward of £100,000—comprising £80,000 raised by the family and £20,000 from Crimestoppers—is currently on offer for information leading to a conviction.

The newly released footage, captured at 9:24 p.m. on the night of the murder, shows three individuals on two bikes turning into Walton Hall Park from Walton Hall Avenue. Police believe these men are key to the investigation, as the park is only a five-minute cycle from the scene of the shooting. Although the suspects in the video are masked, authorities are hopeful that the public may recognize their clothing or the specific bikes used.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath, leading the investigation, emphasized the ongoing commitment to securing justice for the Cox family.

“We are just as determined as we were two years ago to find the people responsible,” DCI McGrath said. “I appreciate no one is going to recognise the faces of the three males by watching the CCTV, but we hope that it could jog someone’s memory who knows the males by their clothing or use of the bikes in the location from around that time.”

“If anyone out there is keeping information to themselves, I ask you to consider what Ellis’s family are going through,” he added. “It is now time to come forward.”

Police have urged anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to contact them via the dedicated police portal or by calling 101, referencing operation number 24000554719. Anonymous reports can also be made through the independent charity Crimestoppers.
