Merseyside Police arrested a woman, 29, on suspicion of assisting an offender but the van driver remains at large
A man is fighting for his life in hospital following a hit-and-run in Everton on Tuesday, April 14. Emergency services were called to Jennifer Avenue at around 6.25pm after a pedestrian was hit by a van.
The victim, a man in his 30s, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a critical condition on Wednesday, April 15 morning. The van fled the scene and a police manhunt to find the driver remains ongoing.
Police later found the van abandoned on Latimer Street in nearby Vauxhall. A 29-year-old woman has now been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
When the ECHO arrived at the scene, a large police cordon had been put in place stretching from the junction of Jennifer Avenue and Scotland Road to midway along Jennifer Avenue.
Several police vehicles, including a scientific support unit, were parked nearby while forensic officers gathered evidence within the cordon.
A search of the surrounding area was ongoing, with road closures in place on Jennifer Avenue. The cordon was in place for almost 12 hours and was removed at around 7am on Wednesday.
Merseyside Police confirmed enquiries are ongoing. Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
Detective Inspector Joe Rea said: “Our investigation into the collision is in the early stages and we are carrying out a number of lines of enquiries.
“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to please contact us as a matter of urgency so we can establish the circumstances.
“We would also urge any motorists who were in the area at that time to please check your dashcam footage to see if it captured the incident, which will help with the investigation.”
