It can be very annoying when you realise your nice fresh bread has gone stale – but you don’t need to throw it away.
A foodie revealed a simple tip that helps to revive baked goods in a matter of minutes. You won’t need to spend more money or have any fancy equipment to hand.
Apparently, all you need is a splash of water from the tap and a hot oven. Tyler Butt told his 1.6 million TikTok followers: “If you’ve got stale bread or baguettes like this, please don’t bin them.
“You want to just quickly run them under the tap, shake off the excess and then put them into a nice hot oven for 5-10 minutes.”
While it may seem strange to put bread in the sink, there’s a clever explanation behind this method.
Wetting stale bread helps to revive it by forcing moisture back inside. You may assume this causes soggy results, but it actually creates a lovely texture in the oven.
Water turns to steam when the bread is re-baked, making it pleasantly soft inside. You also have the benefit of crisping up the crust as droplets of water evaporate from the surface.
As you can see by looking at Tyler’s baguette after the re-baking hack, the results are great.
He said: “It’s soft, still crunchy on the outside and has completely reset it. The same principle applies to rice, pizza, croissants, pastries and things like that.”
People were impressed by the technique and took to the comments section to share their thoughts.
One wrote: “Thank you for that. I normally make mine into breadcrumbs.” Another said: “Genuinely a top tip, thanks.”
A third commented: “This is cool.” And a fourth added: “This works great for bakery loaves too.”
