Demi Lovato turned a concert into a wedding anniversary moment on Friday, April 24, when she brought her husband Jutes on stage during her ‘It’s Not That Deep Tour’ show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The couple performed a duet of ‘Iris’ by the Goo Goo Dolls, the same song that served as their first dance at their May 2025 wedding, with the audience joining in on the emotional moment.Video captured Lovato, 33, belting out the lyrics of the 1998 hit alongside her husband, whose real name is Jordan Lutes, as the crowd at one of the world’s most iconic venues sang along.
Why ‘Iris’ holds such special meaning for Demi Lovato and Jordan Lutes
The song has been significant to the couple long before their wedding. Almost a year before they married, Lovato appeared on ‘Today with Hoda and Jenna’ in February 2024 and shared her dream wedding scenario. “I would love the Goo Goo Dolls to be able to perform ‘Iris’ at my wedding as a first dance. That would be so special and so incredible,” she said. That wish came true on May 25, 2025, when Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik performed the song live at their California ceremony.During an interview on the Zach Sang Show in December, Jutes, 35, opened up about the experience. “That’s like one of the coolest things. That was, in the moment, me and Demi were looking at each other, and I was just like, ‘What’s going on right now?!’ I was like, ‘This is the most iconic song ever. He’s right there, and it’s for us,'” he said before adding, “Icon. Such a legend for doing that. Forever grateful.” For Jutes, having Rzeznik sing the hit on an acoustic guitar was like “a movie moment.“Lovato also spoke to Vogue shortly after the ceremony, saying the experience was “surreal.” “This was a pinch-us moment. It’s our favorite song and has so much meaning to both of us,” she said. The Goo Goo Dolls also paid tribute to the newlyweds on social media, sharing a black-and-white photo of the couple sharing their first dance with Rzeznik playing guitar in the background. “It was an absolute pleasure attending the wedding of Demi Lovato and Jutes and performing ‘Iris’ during their first dance together as husband and wife,” the band wrote in the caption.
