The regional environmental committee in Epirus, northwestern Greece, has rejected plans for a small hydropower project and two wind farms, citing environmental concerns.
The Environment, Spatial Planning and Development Committee of the Epirus Region issued a unanimous negative opinion on a proposed 1-megawatt hydropower plant on the Metovitikos River in the village of Metsovo, warning of potential disruption to the river ecosystem.
Officials also turned down two wind farm projects, each with an installed capacity of 42 megawatts, planned for the Parga area. The committee cited concerns over the scale of construction works, including access roads and grid infrastructure, and their possible long-term impact on the region’s natural landscape.
In its official minutes, the committee said it “unanimously expressed a negative opinion” on both wind energy proposals.
