Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (MWL) secured the top spot in the Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE) programme.
It was also ranked the second highest ranked in the country.

PLACE inspections evaluate facilities that particularly matter to patients, including cleanliness, food quality, privacy and dignity, building condition and appearance, and the quality of the environment for patients with dementia and disabilities.
The inspections are designed to put patient voice at the heart of assessing and improving hospital environments.
They are carried out by patients, patient representatives, and members of the public, who inspect and score all acute and specialist organisations throughout the country.
Inspections were carried out at Whiston and St Helens hospitals, as well as the intermediate care unit at Newton Hospital.
MWL scored particularly well in cleanliness, with Whiston and Newton hospitals scoring 100 per cent and St Helens Hospital more than 99 per cent.
Both St Helens and Newton hospitals also achieved full marks for condition, appearance, and maintenance, as well as for dementia-friendly environments.
Whiston Hospital scored above 99 per cent in both of these categories.
