The Higher Secondary Examination 2026 results revealed a strong showing by rural and semi-urban districts, many of which outperformed Kolkata in the Class 12 board examinations this year. While Kolkata recorded a pass percentage of 91.88 per cent, several districts outside the state capital crossed the 93 per cent mark. Purba Midnapore emerged as the top-performing district in West Bengal with a pass percentage of 94.19 per cent. It was followed by Howrah at 93.84 per cent, South 24 Parganas at 93.71 per cent and Hooghly at 93.41 per cent. Nadia also posted a strong 92.68 per cent success rate, while Paschim Midnapore recorded 91.96 per cent. In comparison, Kolkata remained behind several neighbouring districts despite maintaining a pass percentage above the state average of 91.23 per cent.

A total of 6,26,258 students appeared for the Higher Secondary examination this year, out of which 5,71,355 passed. The results were declared on May 14 through a press conference held at Vidyasagar Bhavan in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
