Following backlash over an offensive 2012 skit involving TV personality Courtney Stodden, veteran actor Jason Alexander recently donated money to a charity organisation, according to recent reports. Earlier, the 66-year-old ‘Seinfeld’ actor issued an official statement apologising to Stodden, expressing regret for his choices during the skit.

A few days ago, Courtney Stodden posted about Jason Alexander’s old 2012 skit, in which she had to wear a red two-piece beachwear in front of the camera at age 17 and was involved in a series of explicit jokes. Following her social media post about the matter and public backlash, Alexander issued a formal apology to the actress and online personality.Now, according to a new post shared by Stodden, the actor donated thousands of dollars to Unchained at Last, a nonprofit organisation that works toward ending child marriage in the US. She shared in her post that, “I want to sincerely thank him for choosing to turn words into action. Accountability isn’t about public punishment—it’s about taking meaningful steps that can help create change. My hope has always been bigger than my own story. If difficult conversations can lead to real support for organisations protecting children and ending child marriage, then something positive can come from something deeply painful.”Further commenting on how this should become the standard, Stodden added, “When harm is acknowledged, meaningful action has the power to help others. That’s how real change begins.” She then asked other people to be inspired by the veteran actor’s actions and to donate to the cause to eradicate child marriage from the country.

In 2012, when Stodden was 17 years old, she and her husband, Hutchison, were invited to a skit show called ‘The Donny Clay Show with Courtney Stodden.’ In the setup, Alexander played the role of a daytime TV doctor talking to her and her husband at the time. In one scene, the actor rubbed a telephone on her chest and commented that there was “plenty” of signal coming from there; however, when he did the same to her head, he stated that he could not get any signal from there. Sharing a photo from the skit, Stodden called out the actor, along with all the adults who were part of the show and allowed it to happen.Her post read, “I was a minor. I didn’t have the legal power to decide whether I wanted to participate. The contracts were signed by adults”, further adding that the money did not even go to her, and was instead transferred to her husband.For the unversed, Courtney Stodden married actor David Hutchison when she was only 16 years old, while he was 51, after her parents consented to the union. They stayed together until 2017, when they officially split, and formally finalised their divorce in 2020. Since then, Stodden has been a vocal advocate for stopping underage marriages across the country and has openly supported various organisations working toward the same cause.
