Chaliha battled back from an initial setback to defeat China’s fourth-seeded Han Qian Xi with a scoreline of 14-21, 21-14, 21-14 in a thrilling 53-minute encounter, securing the Korea Masters women’s singles title. Prior to this tournament, Chaliha was ranked 50th in the world. Her exceptional performance in Asan is now set to propel her into the coveted top 40 for the very first time, a testament to her dedication and burgeoning talent.
The final match saw Chaliha begin with an aggressive stance, quickly establishing a 9-5 lead. “I feel really great; it’s unbelievable. I’m still trying to digest it,” Chaliha shared in a video by Olympics.com, her excitement palpable. She elaborated on her in-game adjustments, stating, “First set was a little bit tricky because of the drift conditions, so I wasn’t able to manage it. But then the second set, the other side is more comfortable, and it’s a little bit less drift. So I was able to control it. In the third set, when I changed again after 11 points, I was on the good side…so I’m glad that I could pull off.”
Chaliha’s path to the title was marked by an impressive display of skill and determination throughout the tournament. Her journey in Asan included victories over Ririna Hiramoto and Kim Min Ji.
