NEW DELHI – The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is set to release the NEET PG 2026 city intimation slip on August 11, 2026. This crucial document will inform candidates of their allocated examination city, facilitating necessary travel arrangements ahead of the highly anticipated postgraduate medical entrance examination.

The NEET PG 2026 examination is slated for August 30, 2026, conducted as a single-shift, computer-based test across the nation. Following the city intimation, the admit cards will be made available on August 27, 2026. Candidates should note that the result declaration deadline and the mandatory date for completing the MBBS internship both fall on September 30, 2026, marking a tight schedule for aspirants.

Upon its release, candidates can access their city intimation slip by visiting the official NBEMS websites: natboard.edu.in or nbe.edu.in. Aspirants will need to select the NEET PG 2026 City Intimation Slip link and provide their application number, date of birth, and password to retrieve the document. It is strongly advised to download and print the slip for future reference.

It is important to underscore that the city intimation slip is not an admit card. While it will disclose the allocated city or town for the examination, the precise examination centre address and entry timings will exclusively be provided on the official admit card. NBEMS has clarified that venue allocation will follow a systematic process, not a first-come, first-served basis.

Record Registrations and Streamlined Examination Pattern

This year’s NEET PG examination has seen an unprecedented number of registrations, with a record 2,73,183 candidates signing up. This represents a significant 12.5% increase over the previous year, highlighting the growing demand for postgraduate medical education in India. The examination will be conducted across an extensive network of 340 cities, utilizing more than 1,300 specialized test centres to accommodate the large number of aspirants.

In a notable structural change, the question paper has been reduced by 10%. The total number of multiple-choice questions is now 180, down from the previous 200. Consequently, the maximum marks have also been adjusted, falling from 800 to 720. Candidates will tackle five mandatory, time-locked sections, each comprising 36 questions and allocated 42 minutes. Once the 42-minute period for a section concludes, it will lock permanently, emphasizing time management skills.

Postgraduate Opportunities and Future Steps

India currently boasts 86,360 postgraduate medical seats across various MD, MS, DNB, and Diploma programmes. Government institutions contribute significantly, accounting for 42,936 seats (49.7%), while private and deemed institutions offer 43,424 seats (50.3%). The National Medical Commission (NMC) has further bolstered these opportunities by sanctioning 9,084 new PG seats during the 2025-26 cycle, with an additional 5,000 seats expected through Phase-III of the Central Government’s expansion scheme.

Regionally, Karnataka leads with 10,092 postgraduate seats, followed by Maharashtra (9,216), Tamil Nadu (8,023), Uttar Pradesh (7,437), and Telangana (5,248).

Following the examination, individual scorecards and category-wise merit ranks are anticipated to be released in October 2026. This will be followed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) registration and choice filling process, expected to commence in late October or November 2026, marking the next critical stage for aspiring postgraduate medical students.
