Veteran Actor Sudhir Dalvi Returns Home After Health Scare; Bollywood Stars Rally to Support Medical Expenses

MUMBAI – Veteran actor Sudhir Dalvi, best known for his iconic and spiritually resonant portrayal of Sai Baba in the 1977 classic Shirdi Ke Sai Baba, is on the path to recovery after a harrowing month-long battle with a severe health crisis.

The 86-year-old actor was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital on October 7, 2025, after being diagnosed with sepsis, a life-threatening systemic infection. The complications from the illness severely affected his joints and restricted his mobility, eventually necessitating intensive care in the hospital’s ICU.

A Financial Burden Eased by Industry Support

As the weeks passed, the actor’s medical expenses began to mount rapidly, eventually crossing the Rs 19 lakh mark. Faced with the daunting reality of these rising costs, the veteran actor’s family found themselves in a precarious financial situation.

In a heartening display of solidarity, several prominent figures from the film industry stepped forward to alleviate the family’s burden. Bollywood luminaries including Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, and Kartik Aaryan were among the first to extend significant financial assistance. Additionally, in December 2025, the Bombay High Court granted permission for the Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust to contribute Rs 11 lakh toward the treatment, ensuring the actor received the best possible care.

The Road to Recovery

Providing an update on her husband’s condition, Suhas Dalvi shared that the veteran actor is finally back in the comfort of his own home. While the road to recovery is long, she expressed immense relief.

“He is at home now. He still has to walk with the help of a walker, and his mind is disoriented, but he is happy to be home,” Suhas told Bollyspice. She noted that the hospital environment had been intimidating, making his return to a familiar setting a crucial part of his healing process.

Reflecting on the overwhelming support they received, Suhas expressed deep gratitude not only to the film fraternity but also to the countless devotees of Sai Baba who reached out. “Who says we’ve become a heartless people? The love and generosity after my husband’s illness is overwhelming,” she added.

A Humble Appeal for Prayers

Now that the immediate medical crisis has been managed, the family has made a selfless request. Suhas has indicated that they no longer require further financial contributions and has asked that such support be redirected toward those in greater need.

“We request the film association, which is so kindly sending money every month, to use that money for someone needier,” Suhas said. “My husband has received all the medical help he could get. Now, it is just prayers that he needs.”

As Sudhir Dalvi continues his slow recovery at home, he remains under the dedicated care of his wife. The outpouring of affection from fans and peers alike serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of an actor who touched many lives through his portrayal of one of India’s most revered saints.
