Pop sensation and multiple Grammy Award winner Ariana Grande, whose powerful voice has graced chart-topping songs and productions such as ‘Wicked,’ has begun a new chapter with the unveiling of her eighth studio album, ‘Petal’.The 32-year-old singer confirmed the news on Tuesday, April 28, unveiling the album’s title, release date, and cover artwork ahead of her upcoming ‘Eternal Sunshine Tour’. Set to drop on July 31, ‘Petal’ features a close-up black-and-white image of Grande smiling, with her hair softly covering part of her face. Explaining the meaning behind the title, she described it as something “full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.”
What led up to the ‘Petal’ announcement
Grande had already sent fans into a frenzy on April 8, when she shared an Instagram photo dump showing her at work in the studio. The carousel of images featured the ‘Wicked’ star in various poses, including in front of a sound mixing board, with a microphone, and scrolling through audio files on a computer. In the final image, she sat on a chair with her arms raised in a triumphant pose. She also tucked an image of dainty flowers into the mix, leading many fans to speculate whether the blooms were connected to new music.‘Petal’ follows her seventh album ‘Eternal Sunshine’, which arrived in March 2024, with a deluxe version released one year later.

Grande will begin her tour on June 6, her first since the Sweetener World Tour in 2019. She has previously spoken openly about the journey it took to get back on the road. In an interview with Interview magazine in November, she credited ‘Eternal Sunshine’ and her role in ‘Wicked’ with helping her “reclaim certain pieces” of herself. “I’ve just been taking baby steps towards healing my relationship to music and touring, and I think my time with Glinda and with acting really helped me build the strength to be able to do that. I think it just held some traumas for me before, and I feel those dissipating, and that is such an extraordinarily beautiful thing,” she said.That same month, appearing on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast, she reflected on her future. “I don’t want to say any definitive things. I do know that I’m very excited to do this small tour, but I think it might not happen again for a long, long, long, long time. It’s going to be beautiful, and I’m so grateful. I think that’s why I’m doing it because I’m like, ‘One last hurrah.’ For now,” she said.Grande also spoke about feeling more connected to herself and her artistry than ever before. “I spent so much time only doing pop music, but I grew up as a girl who loved musical theater and comedy,” she said. “So I think the thing that will be best for my soul and also my art and for what I’m giving to myself too, is if I’m chasing things that feel very right in the moment.”She added that the last decade of her life “will look very different” from what is ahead.
