Dileep and Tamannaah Bhatia’s ‘Bandra’ Set for Long-Awaited OTT Premiere

The Malayalam crime-drama Bandra, starring Dileep and Tamannaah Bhatia, is finally preparing for its digital debut. While the film has generated significant buzz since its theatrical run in 2023, fans have waited patiently for an update on its streaming availability. According to recent reports, the movie is expected to arrive on the ZEE5 platform in September 2026, though an exact premiere date has yet to be officially confirmed by the makers.

A Journey into the Dark Side of the 90s

Directed by Arun Gopy and penned by celebrated screenwriter Udaykrishna, Bandra weaves a complex narrative that bridges the vibrant world of the 1990s Bollywood film industry with the grim realities of organized crime.

The plot centers on Sakshi, an aspiring filmmaker who becomes obsessed with the mysterious death of Tara Janaki, a legendary actress from the 90s. As Sakshi digs into the circumstances surrounding the star’s final days, her investigation uncovers a dangerous web of intrigue. The trail eventually leads her to Alexander Aala Dominic, a powerful and affluent businessman whose life was inextricably linked to Tara’s.

Star-Studded Performances and Complex Characters

In the film, Dileep steps into the role of Alexander Aala Dominic, a man whose fascination with Tara began long before they ever met, sparked by seeing her on the big screen in the film Goon. When Tara seeks refuge at his Kerala residence during a film shoot, their lives become permanently intertwined.

Tamannaah Bhatia portrays the vulnerable yet resilient Tara Janaki. Her character struggles to break free from the clutches of her controlling adoptive mother (played by Lena) and a powerful, exploitative don (portrayed by Dino Morea). The film depicts her desperate attempt to escape a life of glamour that masks a sinister reality, including allegations of assault by her producer.

Critical Reception

Upon its theatrical release, the film received a mixed response from critics. The ETimes review awarded Bandra 2.5 stars out of 5, noting that while the film had a “promising premise” regarding underworld influence in 90s cinema, the execution struggled to maintain the necessary momentum.

The review noted, “Dileep shows his age and has lost the lovable liveliness and spark that made him watchable in his slapstick comedies. Tamannaah is required to look pretty, which she does, but she doesn’t seem to get into her role, particularly to suggest that she feels any real love for Aala.” Additionally, critics felt that director Arun Gopy’s attempt to craft a “massy” entertainer lacked the energy required to fully capitalize on the film’s ambitious scope.

Despite the critical reception, the film’s unique genre blend and the star power of its leads ensure that its upcoming OTT release remains a highly anticipated event for fans of Malayalam cinema.
