Enzo Maresca has been confirmed as Manchester City’s new manager, signing a three-year deal at the Etihad
All you need to know about Man City’s appointment of Enzo Maresca as manager:
- Manchester City have confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager, with the Italian succeeding Pep Guardiola, who left at the end of last season.
- Maresca has been given a three-year deal at the Etihad after the Blues wrapped up their compensation talks with his former club Cheslea, who he left in January.
- City had initially aimed to announce Maresca sooner but had to negotiate with Chelsea in a process that took longer than the Blues expected. An eight-figure compensation sum has now been agreed.
- The 46-year-old has already spent time at City, leading the club’s Under-21 side in the 2020-21 season and returning as Guardiola’s assistant in the 2022-23 campaign which ended in the Treble.
- Maresca managed Parma in between his two City spells but was sacked after a short-lived tenure.
- He won promotion to the Premier League with Leicester City before joining Chelsea, where he claimed the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup.
- City have been impressed by his development as a coach, and the fact he has already worked within the club’s set-up was another appealing factor.
- Maresca’s first matches in charge will be the club’s pre-season tour of Asia when City take on Inter Milan, the K-League All Stars and Atletico Madrid.
- City then face Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday, August 16 before they kick off their Premier League campaign a week later at home to Bournemouth.
