British Rapper Yung Filly to Face Retrial on Rape Charges in Australia

British social media personality and rapper Yung Filly is set to face a retrial on three counts of rape following a complex legal proceeding in Western Australia. The artist, whose legal name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was cleared of several serious sexual assault charges by a jury last month, but the court could not reach a unanimous verdict on remaining counts.

The 31-year-old influencer, who gained prominence for his music and digital content, was originally facing a total of 10 charges stemming from an incident in 2024. Prosecutors alleged that after a performance at a nightclub in Perth, the entertainer engaged in a series of violent assaults against a 20-year-old fan in his hotel room.

Throughout the trial, the defense maintained that the encounter was consensual. However, the complainant alleged that the situation escalated into violence and that the defendant ignored repeated pleas for him to stop.

Verdicts and Legal Proceedings

Following a lengthy trial, the jury delivered a mixed verdict. Barrientos was acquitted of three counts of sexual penetration without consent, as well as single charges of assault and strangulation.

Despite these acquittals, the jury found him guilty of two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm. The court has determined that sentencing for these convictions will be deferred until after the conclusion of the upcoming retrial, ensuring the legal process is resolved in its entirety.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the defendant’s high-profile status in the UK’s entertainment industry. Following the jury’s inability to reach a verdict on the three remaining rape charges, the prosecution successfully pushed for a retrial.

Next Steps

The legal proceedings are far from over for the performer. Barrientos is scheduled to appear in a West Australian court on August 27 for a hearing regarding an application to vary his current bail conditions. As of now, a specific date for the commencement of the retrial has not yet been set.

Legal experts following the Yung Filly case note that the upcoming proceedings will focus exclusively on the charges upon which the original jury failed to agree. The court remains under a strict mandate to ensure a fair trial as the judicial process continues.

This is a developing story. Please check back for further updates as more information becomes available.
