Bury Abbey Rotary Club celebrates record breaking charity fundraising – Suffolk Village Info News


The Bury Abbey Rotary Club has hosted a celebration evening at the historic Guildhall, in Bury St Edmunds, to coincide with Volunteers Week, to honour their remarkable charity fundraising achievements for the 2025/2026 year.

The club announced that they raised an impressive £80,000, with over £40,000 generated from the popular Classic Car Show and £29,000 from the St Edmund’s Day Dinner.

The event, held on June 2, was a gathering of club members and representatives from the 25 charities that have benefitted from the club’s generous contributions.

Sponsored by Ashtons Legal, the evening featured refreshments and provided a lively atmosphere for networking and collaboration.

Melanie Lesser, the President of Bury Abbey Rotary, expressed the club’s unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

She said: “We have been celebrating the club’s 20th anniversary this year and are delighted that the club has grown in members from 15 and now boasts over 45 members and growing each year.

“We are excited to host a variety of fundraising events in the next 12 months, including the Classic Car Show, a golf day, a black-tie St Edmunds Day Dinner, and an online auction.

“We also support international projects including End Polio Now and the purchase of Shelter Boxes.”

Alan Brown, the chair of Community Service, and Hayley Coull, the Vice President  took the attendees through a journey of 20 years of fundraising highlighting the many projects that have been undertaken over the years with two rules – Serve the Community and have fun doing it!
