Kolkata Police Register FIR Against Mamata Banerjee Over Alleged Violation of High Court Orders

Kolkata: In a significant legal development in West Bengal, the Kolkata Police initiated a suo motu FIR on Saturday against former Chief Minister and Tr Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee. The case pertains to the alleged violation of conditions set by the Calcutta High Court regarding the staging of a public event.

The legal action follows the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) foundation day meeting, which was held on Friday on Cathedral Road in central Kolkata. According to police reports, the FIR has been filed at the Hastings Police Station, naming both Banerjee and the primary organizers of the student wing’s gathering.

Authorities stated that the decision to register the case was made after a thorough review of the specific conditions imposed by the judiciary for the event to take place.

“The FIR has been registered for the alleged violation of the court’s order. The role of all those involved in the violation will be examined during the course of the investigation,” an officer involved in the case confirmed.
