India’s Jadumani Singh and Preeti Pawar progressed to the quarter-finals of their respective events at the Commonwealth Games 2026 boxing competition in Glasgow on Sunday.
Jadumani Singh, competing in the men’s 55kg round of 16, outboxed Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman to claim a comprehensive 5-0 unanimous decision victory at the Scottish Event Campus.
Despite a significant height and reach advantage with the Pakistani boxer, the speedy Manipuri relied on sharp footwork and quick combinations to repeatedly get inside Rehman’s guard.
The opening round was closely fought, with Jadumani just edging it 3-2.
The Indian boxer seized complete control in the second round, peppering Rehman with crisp combinations before landing a powerful punch to the face.
Although Sumama tried to respond, Jadumani’s movement and counter-attacking proved too much as all five judges awarded the round to the Indian boxer.
Jadumani maintained his composure in the final round to set up a quarter-final clash against Zambia’s Mwengo Mwale.
Earlier in the day, Preeti Pawar produced an equally commanding display in the women’s 54kg round of 16, getting the win over Malawi’s Deborah Mtenje after Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the second round.
Preeti, an Asian Games bronze medallist, asserted her superiority from the opening bell, forcing a standing eight count early in the first round before comfortably claiming it 5-0.
Mtenje attempted to increase the tempo in the second round but repeatedly walked into heavy punches from the Indian. After a second standing eight count, the referee halted the contest, handing Preeti a victory.
Preeti will next face Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde for a place in the semi-finals.
Later in the day, Aditya Yadav became the first Indian boxer to suffer a defeat at Glasgow 2026 and crashed out after losing to Uganda’s Nuhu Batte 3-2 in the men’s 65kg round of 16 contest.
Lovlina Borgohain has already secured at least a bronze medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games after receiving a direct passage to the semi-finals.
Both losing semi-finalists in Commonwealth Games 2026 boxing receive bronze medals.
