The Indian swimming team, led by Olympians Srihari Nataraj and Sajan Prakash, finished its Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign without a medal in Glasgow.
Swimming competitions at Glasgow 2026 were held at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre from July 24 to July 29 and featured a record 56 medal events – 42 in able-bodied swimming and 14 in integrated para swimming.
This was the most expansive swimming programme in Commonwealth Games history.
India fielded a five-member swimming team for the CWG comprising Srihari Nataraj, Sajan Prakash, Aryan Nehra, Aneesh Gowda and Dhakshan Shashikumar.
Srihari Nataraj reached the semi-finals of the men’s 50m backstroke before narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
The Olympian also advanced to the semi-finals of the men’s 100m backstroke but was eliminated after finishing sixth in his race. He also helped India qualify for the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay final.
Competing at his third Commonwealth Games, Sajan Prakash reached the men’s 200m butterfly final and finished eighth.
He also missed out on the semi-finals of the men’s 50m butterfly and failed to qualify for the men’s 200m freestyle final after placing 20th overall in the heats.
Aryan Nehra competed in the men’s 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle finals, finishing seventh in both events. The Indian swimmer also competed in the men’s 400m freestyle but did not progress beyond the heats.
India’s men’s 4x200m freestyle relay quartet of Srihari Nataraj, Aryan Nehra, Aneesh Gowda and Dhakshan Shashikumar qualified for the final and placed sixth.
Gowda missed out on the men’s 200m freestyle final, while Dhakshan Shashikumar bowed out in the heats of the men’s 400m freestyle.
Prasanta Karmakar remains the only Indian swimmer to have won a Commonwealth Games medal, claiming bronze in the men’s 50m freestyle S9 para swimming event at Delhi 2010.
India’s para swimmers came the closest to winning a medal from the pool at this edition, with Karthik Budigina placing fourth in the men’s S13 100m freestyle final with a time of 57.57.
England’s Matthew Redfern – the bronze medallist – clocked 56.86. Budigina finished sixth in the men’s S13 50m freestyle final.
Suyash Jadhav also fell just short of a medal, finishing fourth in the men’s 50m freestyle S7 final with a time of 31.63, just 0.30 seconds behind England’s third-placed Bruce Dee. Chaitanya Kulkarni placed fifth in the same final with 33.17.
Ali Imam reached the finals of both the men’s S13 100m freestyle and men’s S13 50m freestyle, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Swatik Patil qualified for the men’s 100m breaststroke SB9 final and finished fifth.
