Bellflower Business Ravaged During Street Takeover, Over $30,000 in Damages
Bellflower, CA – (Date of Publication) – A Bellflower business was ransacked by dozens of individuals early Saturday morning, while a large-scale street takeover involving an estimated 100 to 150 vehicles effectively blocked law enforcement access to the scene. The audacious crime, which resulted in an estimated $30,000 in damages and inventory loss, highlights the escalating challenges posed by these unsanctioned automotive gatherings.
Sheriff’s deputies responded around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday to reports of 20 to 30 people breaking into a business on the 15100 block of Bellflower Boulevard, near Somerset Boulevard. However, upon arrival, they were met with a chaotic scene. A massive street takeover was in full swing at the intersection of Bellflower and Somerset, with vehicles obstructing the roadway and preventing immediate access to the targeted establishment, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were forced to navigate through the dense crowd of vehicles and spectators to reach the business. They discovered a severely damaged front window and clear evidence that the interior had been ransacked. Surveillance footage from the scene painted a more detailed picture of the incident. The video revealed three initial suspects utilizing power tools to smash through the front window and cut a lock on a security gate, thereby creating an opening for a much larger group.
Within moments, approximately 30 to 40 additional individuals swarmed into the business, systematically ransacking its contents. The brazen act lasted for roughly two minutes before the group dispersed, seamlessly blending back into the throngs of the ongoing street takeover, making it difficult for deputies to identify those involved.
The owner of the business, whose identity has not been released, was unable to provide a precise estimate of the losses incurred. However, preliminary assessments by deputies place the total damage and inventory loss at nearly $30,000.
Despite the significant criminal activity, no arrests have been made in direct connection with the burglary. While deputies issued multiple citations related to the street takeover itself, they were unable to establish a definitive link between any cited individuals and the ransacking of the business.
A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department told City News Service on Sunday that it remains unclear whether the burglary was a premeditated act coordinated with the street takeover, or if the large gathering merely presented an opportunistic environment for the crime. The incident underscores growing concerns about the potential for criminal exploitation during these often-disruptive events.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the burglary to contact detectives at the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station at 562-623-3500. Anonymous tips can also be provided through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
