Social media is currently flooded with rumours claiming that Air India has cancelled all international flights until July 2026 which left potential passengers worried about their overseas travel plans.
However, the claim is false.
Air India has not suspended all global operations. Instead, the airline has temporarily reduced services on some international routes due to rising operational costs, airspace restrictions because of the West Asia conflict, and pressure on profitability.
The airline is still operating flights to major destinations across Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia, although some routes have lower frequency and schedule adjustments.
The confusion appears to have started after reports emerged that the airline would reduce international operations through June and July 2026 due to surging jet fuel prices and geopolitical disruptions affecting global aviation routes.
According to reports, only a portion of Air India’s overall network is impacted.
Out of the airline’s more than 1,000 daily domestic and international operations, roughly 100 flights could face temporary reduction, cancellation, or rescheduling during this period which means a partial reduction of around 10-12%, not a complete shutdown of international services.
Why Is Air India Reducing International Flights?
The airline’s CEO Campbell Wilson reportedly informed staff that several international routes have become financially difficult to operate due to Sharp rise in aviation turbine fuel prices, West Asia airspace restrictions & higher crew and operational costs.
Flights that earlier used shorter air corridors are now taking extended routes because of geopolitical tensions in parts of West Asia. Some rerouted flights are taking 60 to 90 minutes longer than usual, increasing fuel consumption significantly.
Several long-haul international sectors from Delhi and Mumbai are seeing reduced frequency.
The most affected routes reportedly include London, Frankfurt, Paris, New York, Toronto, Sydney & Melbourne
Some sectors such as Delhi to Vienna, Mumbai to Osaka have reportedly been suspended temporarily.
Meanwhile, routes to cities including Frankfurt, Chicago, Vancouver, Melbourne, and Singapore could witness frequency reductions of 15-30%. Despite these cuts, Air India is still operating international services across major global destinations.
The airline group is reportedly facing huge financial pressure due to rising global aviation costs. Industry estimates suggest Air India recorded losses exceeding Rs. 22,000 crore for the financial year ending March 2026.
