Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Gets Official April 2027 Release Date; Resonance Demo Drops Today
The wait for the conclusion of one of modern gaming’s most ambitious trilogies is almost over. During today’s Sony State of Play livestream, director Naoki Hamaguchi officially pulled back the curtain on the final chapter of the reimagined classic, announcing that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch worldwide on April 8, 2027.
In a landmark move for the franchise, Square Enix confirmed that the title will launch simultaneously across all major platforms—PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2. This marks the first time a mainline entry in this trilogy has enjoyed a truly global, multi-platform day-one release.
The Final Showdown
As the closing act of the trilogy—which began with Final Fantasy 7 Remake—Revelation picks up the narrative threads left by its predecessors. Cloud and his companions are now locked in a race against time to stop Sephiroth from summoning the world-ending Meteor. To complicate matters, the planet’s own desperate defense mechanisms, the massive “Weapons,” have awakened. These ancient entities act as a double-edged sword: while they seek to protect the planet, their destructive nature poses an existential threat to all of humanity.
New footage revealed during the stream highlights the massive scale of the game. Director Hamaguchi showcased the return of the Highwind, Cid’s iconic airship, which players will use to traverse a world map that incorporates all regions seen in previous entries alongside entirely new, original locations. Described as the “final disc” of the original epic scaled for a modern audience, this is set to be the largest and most expansive entry in the series to date.
A Double Dose of Final Fantasy
The excitement for fans of the publisher didn’t stop with Revelation. Square Enix also surprised viewers by announcing that a playable demo for its upcoming HD-2D RPG, Final Fantasy Resonance, is available for download starting today.
Weighing in at approximately 5GB, the demo covers the game’s entire first chapter, offering between three to five hours of gameplay. In keeping with Square Enix’s recent player-friendly practices, all save data from the demo can be carried over to the full game when it launches next month.
The demo is available across all platforms—PS5, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch family—demonstrating Square Enix’s renewed commitment to reaching players wherever they choose to play.
