Firefighters worked in offensive mode to protect the surrounding environment after a blaze in Moulsoe which started when a combine harvester caught light.
Bucks Fire and Rescue reported that crews from Broughton, Newport Pagnell, West Ashland, Woburn and Mereway, as well as a wildfire unit, were called to an incident on Cranfield Road at just after 6pm on Sunday July 19.
The fire service said that a combine harvester was ‘well alight’, and that the incident spread to approximately 55 metres of cut crop.
Firefighters worked in ‘offensive mode’, the service reported, an aggressive strategy that involves directly engaging and extinguishing a blaze, to contain the fire and protect the surrounding environment, while the landowner created a fire break, to help prevent further spread.
Crews used one set of breathing apparatus, four hose reels, a water carrier and water from a farmer’s bowser to tackle the fire, before carrying out damping down and turning over to extinguish hotspots.
