Ustad Kamal Sabri Clinches Prestigious 2026 Intercontinental Music Award, Championing the Legacy of the Sarangi

In a landmark achievement for Indian classical music, renowned maestro Ustad Kamal Sabri has been honored with the Intercontinental Music Award 2026 in the United States. This prestigious recognition celebrates his lifelong commitment to promoting the soul-stirring melodies of the sarangi, an instrument historically synonymous with the deepest expressions of the human spirit.

Prior to his big win, Sabri had garnered significant attention as a finalist in the “Bollywood Music” category for Asia, thanks to his evocative collaboration with legendary singer Anup Jalota on the track Tore Bina Shyam.

A Legacy Transcending Generations

For the maestro, this accolade is more than a personal milestone; it is a profound nod to the musical lineage established by his late father and guru, the legendary “Aaftab-e-Sarangi,” Ustad Sabri Khan.

“Winning the Intercontinental Music Award 2026 USA is a deeply emotional and humbling moment for me,” Sabri shared. “I receive this honor not simply as an award, but as a recognition of the timeless voice of the sarangi, the rich heritage of Indian classical music, and the musical legacy passed on to me by my revered father.”

Sabri noted that the production of Tore Bina Shyam was bolstered by the support of the Green FAD Museum and the International Museum of the Saree. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to these institutions, acknowledging that their sponsorship played a pivotal role in bringing the composition to a global audience, thereby fostering a greater appreciation for India’s diverse cultural tapestry.

A Mission Beyond the Stage

The artist views this international victory as a mandate for the future of his craft. In an era dominated by digital noise, Sabri remains steadfast in his mission to keep the traditional sounds of India relevant.

“For me, this award is also a responsibility—to preserve our tradition, to introduce the sarangi and Indian classical music to younger generations, and to continue building bridges between cultures through music,” he emphasized.

Reflecting on his journey, the maestro dedicated the award to his country and to the global community of artists who believe in the unifying power of melody. Whether performing on grand international stages or collaborating in the studio, Sabri maintains that every note he strikes is an offering to his gurus, his family, and the listeners who have championed his work over the decades.

As he looks toward the future, Ustad Kamal Sabri remains committed to his vision: carrying the soulful voice of the sarangi to even more corners of the globe, creating music that transcends borders, and speaking the universal language of the human heart.
