DIMAPUR — The Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court has directed the State of Nagaland and the Union of India to file their respective affidavits in a writ petition filed by 1,161 Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) Hindi teachers, who have alleged non-inclusion in the state cadre and irregular payment of salaries.
The direction was issued on April 30 during a hearing before Justice Pranjal Das, after it was noted that the respondents had yet to place their responses on record.
The petition, filed by Hindi teachers appointed in government schools across the state, raises concerns over prolonged delays in salary disbursement, denial of parity with other state employees, non-inclusion in the state cadre and lack of financial security despite being regular appointees.

According to an update, counsel for the petitioners, Sourjya Das, submitted the matter during the hearing. The Additional Advocate General, appearing for the State, sought time to obtain instructions and file a response.
Taking note of the submissions, the court directed the respondents to take necessary instructions and file their affidavits for proper adjudication of the case.
Both the State government and the Centre are expected to submit their affidavits on or before the next date of hearing, which has been fixed for June 4, 2026.
The High Court had earlier issued notice to the State and the Centre after hearing the matter, initiating judicial scrutiny into the grievances raised by the teachers.
