Six Detroit residents are facing a suite of serious felony charges following a brazen armed robbery at a commercial marijuana facility in Warren that led to a high-speed police chase and a significant recovery of stolen contraband.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 14, when the suspects allegedly targeted a facility located on Lorna Avenue, near Van Dyke Avenue. According to police, the group arrived at the scene in a two-vehicle convoy consisting of a U-Haul truck and a Chevrolet Camaro.
Authorities state that the operation turned violent upon arrival. One suspect reportedly held a security guard at gunpoint, forcing the guard to surrender his own weapon before ordering him to lie face-down on the ground. The group then successfully breached the building to access the facility’s inventory.
Warren police responded to the scene as the robbery was in progress. As officers arrived, the suspects attempted to flee, and the Chevy Camaro reportedly struck a patrol car. Officers were able to secure the arrest of two individuals at the scene of the collision.
The remaining suspects fled the area in the U-Haul, traveling southbound on Van Dyke Avenue and initiating a pursuit. The chase concluded near 11 Mile Road, where officers successfully deployed tire-deflation devices. The truck was immobilized, and despite a final attempt to escape on foot, the four remaining suspects were taken into custody. A search of the U-Haul yielded more than 200 pounds of stolen marijuana and additional evidence linked to the break-in.
The suspects—identified as 59-year-old Marcellus Huntley, 24-year-old Maya Mitchell, 33-year-old Joshua Dyke, 38-year-old Kyle Turner, 32-year-old James Claybrooks-Wells, and 24-year-old Aaron Marshall—were arraigned on Oct. 16. Each individual faces a comprehensive list of charges, including armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and breaking and entering. Several suspects face additional counts related to firearm possession, fleeing and eluding, and resisting or obstructing police.
During the arraignment, each defendant was issued a $500,000 bond. As a condition of any potential release, the court has mandated that all six must wear a GPS monitoring tether. The group is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 29 for a probable cause conference.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are continuing to process the evidence recovered from the scene. The Warren Police Department has not yet provided further details on the condition of the security guard or whether additional individuals are being sought in connection to the case.
