Five fire engines raced to the scene in Openshaw

Huge flames engulfed a house in Openshaw after a blaze broke out in the early hours of the morning.
The fire broke out at the home on Bransford Road at around 2am this morning (Tuesday, July 21). Pictures showed large flames and smoke billowing from the roof of the property.
Five fire engines were called to the scene, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said. Crews used jets and a hose reel to extinguish the flames.

Two people were assessed by paramedics on the scene. Pictures taken this morning showed the roof of the home left completely burnt out.
Firefighters remain on the scene this afternoon as they work to ‘make the area safe’. No further details on the cause of the blaze have been released at this stage.
A GMFRS spokesperson said in a statement: “At around 2am this morning (Tuesday 21 July), five fire engines from Gorton, Ashton Under Lyne, Manchester Central and Moss Side attended a house fire on Bransford Road, Manchester.
“Crews arrived quickly and used breathing apparatus, two jets and one hose reel to extinguish the fire. Two people were assessed by North West Ambulance Service at the scene.
“Firefighters remain at the scene, working to make the area safe.”
