India to create export sustainability certification

MUMBAI – India is to develop a sustainability certification framework for its export sector, part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s strategy to help domestic garment and textile manufacturers meet increasingly tighter EU and UK compliance rules.

Aimed at improving traceability, carbon accounting and supply chain transparency across key export sectors, the Indian government has started gathering sectoral input to identify products most likely to face sustainability-linked requirements in the near term.
