Global Interest Surges as 3,317 International Buyers Register for BIRC 2026
India’s stature as a global agricultural powerhouse is set for a significant boost this October, as thousands of international stakeholders prepare to converge on New Delhi for the Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2026. The three-day event, scheduled for October 23–25 at the iconic Bharat Mandapam, has already secured registrations from 3,317 buyers representing 138 countries, signaling a massive expansion in the reach of Indian rice exports.
A Diverse Global Footprint
According to registration data finalized as of August 30, the interest spans across highly strategic markets. Bangladesh leads the list with 336 registered buyers, followed closely by Benin (179) and Nigeria (177). The Middle East also maintains a strong presence, with 145 registrations from the UAE and 125 from Saudi Arabia.
Beyond these hubs, the conference is drawing significant participation from Southeast Asia—notably the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia—and a robust contingent from African nations including Ethiopia, Senegal, and South Africa. This geographical diversity is a core objective for the Indian Rice Exporters’ Federation (IREF).
“The response to BIRC 2026 clearly demonstrates the breadth of global markets looking at India,” said Dev Garg, Vice President of the IREF. “Our focus is to convert this international participation into new trade routes, new buyers, and long-term business relationships for Indian rice exporters.”
Data-Driven Networking and B2B Innovation
Moving away from traditional, informal networking, BIRC 2026 is introducing an app-enabled B2B matchmaking platform. This tool allows participants to filter potential partners based on specific requirements, such as rice varieties, volume capacity, and market-specific quality standards. By facilitating targeted, pre-scheduled meetings, organizers aim to shift the focus toward commercially actionable outcomes rather than generic industry discussions.
This initiative follows a successful market-diversification drive from the previous edition, which targeted an estimated Rs 1.8 lakh crore in untapped import potential.
Shaping the Future of the Rice Trade
A central highlight of the conference will be the “Global Demand & Supply Outlook 2027” session, which aims to address the volatility in the global commodity market. Experts will analyze crop surveys, production estimates, and stock levels to debate whether the industry faces a “Price Crash or a New Bull Run” in the coming year.
The event will also host nine specialized knowledge sessions covering:
- Logistics: Documentation, credit, and bulk container shipping.
- Growth Strategies: Profitable milling, value-added products, and policy incentives.
- Sustainability: Carbon credits and modern agricultural certification.
Vision 2047 and Beyond
Beyond the trade floor, the conference will unveil the “Rice Sector Vision 2047” and host an “Innovation Showcase” to highlight top technological advancements in the field. Attendees can also explore nine immersive “Experience Zones,” which cover the entire lifecycle of the grain—from its ancient agricultural roots and biodiversity to future seed innovations and its integration into global cuisines.
As the industry prepares for the upcoming Bharat International Rice Conference, the overarching goal remains clear: to strengthen India’s export architecture, reduce reliance on individual traditional markets, and secure a more sustainable, profitable future for the nation’s farmers and millers alike. The conference will conclude on October 25 with a public-facing Rice Festival, celebrating the grain that serves as a staple for much of the world.
