Turning Everyday Moments into Cinema: Meta Launches the ‘Edits Film Festival’ in India

MUMBAI — In a move designed to celebrate the evolving landscape of digital storytelling, Meta has officially announced the launch of the Edits Film Festival, a nationwide initiative challenging Indian content creators to transform unpolished, everyday footage into cinematic masterpieces.

By leveraging the advanced, standalone video creation capabilities of the “Edits” app, the festival serves as both a creative competition and a showcase for the app’s latest suite of editing tools. Over the next 45 days, creators are encouraged to dig through their camera rolls for “throwaway” shots—accidental clips or unremarkable moments—and reimagine them using the app’s advanced features, including creative overlays, audio effects, and professional-grade filters.

A Stage for Emerging Talent

The initiative aims to shift the focus from perfectly curated content to authentic, creative storytelling.

“India’s creator community is redefining storytelling every day, and the Edits Film Festival is our way of celebrating that spirit,” said Ankit Rihal, Head of Global Partnerships at Meta, India. “We want to empower creators to see the cinematic potential in their everyday moments and use Edits as their creative studio to bring those stories to life.”

The festival is being supported by a high-profile jury, including actor Ahsaas Channa, acclaimed content creator Dolly Singh, media maven and Yuvaa founder Nikhil Taneja, and veteran film critic Rajeev Masand. For the jury, the goal is to identify talent that can turn the mundane into the extraordinary.

“There’s always something new trending on Instagram, and more often than not, it’s a Gen Z creator or editor behind it,” noted Nikhil Taneja. “We’re constantly inspired by their creativity and honest storytelling, so I’m glad to be a juror for the festival and help more of this talent get discovered.”

Submission Guidelines

Creators looking to participate must adhere to the following criteria:

  • Originality: All content must be freshly created specifically for this festival.
  • Timeline: The submission window is open for 45 days, starting today and ending on October 8th.
  • The Tech: Reels must be made using the Edits app. Captions should clearly detail the specific app features—such as transitions, fonts, or audio effects—utilized in the creation process.
  • Required Tags: Entries must use the hashtag #EditsFilmFestival and tag both @metaindia and @weareyuvaa.

Rewards and Recognition

Following the submission window, a panel of experts will shortlist 10–20 of the most distinctive entries. These top reels will be screened at an exclusive, curated festival event. Beyond the prestige of a physical screening, the winners will be featured across Meta’s official social media channels and will receive early-access privileges to forthcoming features within the Edits app.

As the lines between casual social media sharing and professional filmmaking continue to blur, the Edits Film Festival stands as a testament to Meta’s commitment to democratizing high-quality production tools for the next generation of Indian storytellers.
