James Forrest pens new Celtic deal as Parkhead trophy King desperate to increase record breaking haul

One-club man Forrest will spend yet another season at Parkhead after it looked like his time was up this summer

Evergreen James Forrest has penned a new one-year deal with Celtic.

It looked as if the 34-year-old would be leaving Parkhead after almost 25 years with the club when his previous contract expired this summer.

But now the wide man has agreed to stay one more season in the Hoops.

He’s managed 36 appearances under three managers so far this season, and has continued his remarkable record of scoring in evert first team campaign he’s played in.

Already the most decorated Celtic player in history with 25 major domestic honours, Forrest will be giving it everything to increase his haul to 28.

Having booked a Scottish Cup Final date with Dunfermline by thumping St Mirren 6-2 at Hampden, the Hoops face a five game sprint to the Premiership finishing line.

They trail leaders Hearts by three points with Rangers one ahead of them in second. Even with two home matches to come against their title rivals – and a potentially blockbuster final day showdown with the Jambos – Martin O’Neill’s men have next to no margin for error.

And Forrest is desperate to create even more memories in the tightest run in the club has faced in years.

“I’m absolutely delighted. I’ve been here my full career and I’ve loved every minute of it,” he said.

“We’ve been so successful in my time here and I’m delighted to have signed another year, and I’ll just give my best to the club for however long I’ll be here.

“While I’m still playing I can hopefully keep contributing and helping the team when I can and I’m just going to give it everything until I finish. When I do stop, I will look back on so many great memories, but hopefully I can make a few more before I do finish.”
