Leeds United transfer news as record-breaking speedster completes business in very late deal

Leeds United Clinch Late Deadline Day Deal for Bundesliga Speedster Jean-Matteo Bahoya

Leeds United secured their primary attacking target in dramatic fashion on deadline day, successfully hijacking a move for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Jean-Matteo Bahoya at the eleventh hour.

In a move that concluded nearly two hours after the 11:00 PM cutoff, the Whites managed to beat Hull City to the signature of the 21-year-old winger. It is understood that Hull City had been heavily involved in negotiations for the player throughout the day, only for Leeds to swoop in once the youngster expressed a preference for the Elland Road project.

A Significant Financial Commitment

The structure of the deal reflects Leeds’ determination to bolster their forward line. The club has secured Bahoya on an initial loan agreement, which includes a mandatory obligation to purchase the player permanently for a fee in the region of £20 million. Including a £1.7 million loan fee and an additional £4.3 million in potential performance-related add-ons, the total package represents a significant investment.

Bahoya’s arrival marks the seventh signing for Leeds during this window, rounding off a busy period of recruitment for the club.

Adding Blistering Pace to the Attack

Bahoya arrives in Yorkshire with a reputation as one of the most physically gifted players in European football. He currently holds the record for the fastest sprint ever recorded in Bundesliga history, clocking an incredible 37.16 km/h. To put that figure into perspective, it is a mere 0.42 km/h slower than the average speed maintained by Usain Bolt during his 2009 100m world record run.

While primarily recognized for his work on the wing, Bahoya is also comfortable operating as an attacking midfielder. During his time at Eintracht Frankfurt, he registered seven goals and eight assists in 78 appearances.

Addressing the Squad Balance

The acquisition of a dynamic wide player follows a summer of speculation regarding Leeds’ tactical direction. Throughout the window, the club was widely expected to prioritize a central striker, particularly following the sale of Joel Piroe to West Ham United. This left Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha as the only senior specialists in the central forward role.

However, Leeds pivoted late in the window to focus on wide reinforcements. The club had previously been heavily linked with a move for Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk, but the Ukrainian international ultimately favored a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

With the capture of Bahoya, Leeds have finally finalized their deadline day business, providing the squad with a high-intensity attacking threat as they look toward the remainder of the 2026 campaign.
