Lenovo Pulls Faulty Legion Go BIOS Update Following Reports of Blank Screens
Lenovo has officially pulled a recent firmware update for its handheld gaming PC, the Legion Go, after users reported that the installation process was causing the devices to display a blank screen.
The problematic firmware, identified as BIOS version V42, was removed from Lenovo’s official support website while the company conducts further validation. According to the manufacturer, the update was never pushed through automated channels such as Windows Update or the Legion Space software, limiting the number of users who may have been exposed to the issue.
“Lenovo is aware that some Legion Go devices may experience a blank screen during installation of BIOS version V42,” the company stated in a brief advisory. “Lenovo has removed the update from its support website while we continue our validation work.”
For those who may have already successfully installed the update, Lenovo notes that no further action is required at this time. However, for users who find their Legion Go devices trapped in a blank-screen state during the installation process, the company suggests a specific recovery sequence:
- Press and hold the power button for approximately 10 seconds to perform a hard shutdown.
- Wait for approximately one minute.
- Attempt to power the device on again normally.
Lenovo cautioned that if these steps fail to restore the device to its normal operating state, affected customers should contact Lenovo Support directly for further assistance and potential repair or replacement options.
This incident highlights the sensitivity of firmware updates on handheld gaming devices, where interruptions or faulty code can lead to significant functional issues. Lenovo has confirmed that it is currently re-evaluating its testing protocols for all future BIOS updates to ensure that subsequent releases maintain the stability expected by the Legion Go community.
