The eagerly anticipated sequel to Priyadarshan’s 2006 comedic hit, Malamaal Weekly, is progressively taking shape as the filmmakers reportedly finalize the primary cast. Reports indicate that the forthcoming film will feature a stellar ensemble including Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, and Elvish Yadav, with Deshmukh poised to lead the project. Although the sequel promises an entirely fresh narrative, it aims to preserve the essence of the original, characterized by its quirky small-town inhabitants, pervasive greed, unforeseen riches, and the resulting comedic pandemonium. Amit Joshi, recognized for his co-direction of ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,’ has been enlisted to helm this sequel, which is slated to commence production towards the end of the current year.
According to a report from Bollywood Hungama, Riteish Deshmukh, Elvish Yadav, Paresh Rawal, and Rajpal Yadav have all verbally agreed to join the cast of Malamaal Weekly 2. While Deshmukh is slated to be the film’s lead, it is noted that he is still reviewing the script and has not yet officially committed to the role. This sequel marks a reunion for the original trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal, and Rajpal Yadav, with popular YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT Season 2 winner, Elvish Yadav, joining as a fresh face in the principal cast. This venture will mark Yadav’s second foray into Bollywood, following his debut alongside Tiger Shroff and Remo D’Souza in an upcoming action drama. All actors involved have provided verbal confirmations, and the formal contractual procedures are presently underway.
Malamaal Weekly 2 is set to introduce an entirely new storyline while intending to uphold the fundamental thematic elements of its predecessor: the lives of ordinary small-town dwellers unexpectedly thrust into a maelstrom of poverty, avarice, and the sudden, tempting allure of wealth. Amit Joshi, who previously co-directed ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,’ starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, is currently refining the script for the sequel. Production is anticipated to begin by November 2026.
