Man charged over Rotherham Hospice charity break-in

A man has been charged with burglary after a break-in at a hospice donation centre in South Yorkshire.

A window was smashed to get into the Rotherham Hospice building on Rawmarsh Road where a donation tin was stolen earlier this month.

Leanne Fox, head of trading at the centre, described the damage as “astronomical” when compared to the amount of cash stolen.

Michael Brailsford, 45, of Queen Street in Rotherham, was due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court, South Yorkshire Police said.

Fox had previously said that money for repairs would have to be taken from funds usually reserved for patient and family care.

She said the break-in had had a significant impact on charity volunteers, with some becoming “emotional” after seeing the aftermath.
