Tragic Altercation: 25-Year-Old Man Stabbed to Death by Friend in Central Delhi

New Delhi: A late-night gathering turned fatal in the national capital on Monday when a 25-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend following a heated dispute. The incident, which occurred near the Dhobi Ghat area close to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, has left the local community in shock.

The victim has been identified as Shivam Mathur. According to police reports, the alleged assailant, 23-year-old Shivam Chauhan, has been taken into custody.

The Sequence of Events

Preliminary investigations suggest that the tragedy unfolded around 11:40 pm. Mathur and Chauhan, who were known to each other, had gathered at the Dhobi Ghat area alongside a mutual friend, identified as Shiv Kumar Gautam, to spend time together.

Authorities believe that a pre-existing disagreement between Mathur and Chauhan reignited during the meeting. As the conversation escalated into a fierce argument, Chauhan allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked Mathur, inflicting multiple stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.

Immediate Response

Shiv Kumar Gautam, who witnessed the brutal attack, immediately rushed the severely injured Mathur to the nearby LNJP Hospital. Despite the rapid efforts to save him, doctors declared Mathur “brought dead” upon arrival.

“Teams received information from LNJP Hospital on September 1, where the injured man was brought with multiple stab injuries,” a senior police official stated.

Following the report, law enforcement officials were dispatched to the hospital. Based on the eyewitness account provided by Gautam, police were able to identify and swiftly apprehend Chauhan. Officials have since recovered the weapon used in the crime.

The incident has sparked a police inquiry as detectives work to piece together the exact cause of the dispute and the timeline of the confrontation. The body of the victim has been sent for a post-mortem examination to confirm the formal cause of death.
