Motorola Returns to the Flagship Wear OS Market with the All-New Moto Watch Ultra
Motorola is officially marking a major comeback in the premium smartwatch space. After years of focusing on more limited real-time operating system (RTOS) devices, the company has announced the Moto Watch Ultra, a high-performance device that signals a serious return to the full-featured Wear OS ecosystem.
A Legacy Reimagined
For many, the name Motorola is synonymous with the original Moto 360—a device that served as the definitive “poster child” for early Android Wear. While Motorola stepped back from the smartwatch spotlight following the original series’ run, and a later licensing-based revival faded, the brand has remained present in the wearable space. However, those recent offerings were primarily focused on extended battery life at the expense of a rich app ecosystem.
With the Moto Watch Ultra, Motorola is pivoting back to the power and flexibility that users expect from a modern smartwatch, fully embracing the latest iteration of Wear OS 6.
Flagship Performance and Design
Priced at $349, the Moto Watch Ultra aims to compete with the best in the market. Under the hood, the device is powered by the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset, paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
Key hardware specifications include:
- Display: 1.5-inch pOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
- Build: A rugged, 46mm stainless steel chassis with a refined brushed finish in silver or gunmetal.
- Battery: A robust 550 mAh battery, which Motorola claims will provide up to two days of usage.
- Durability: The watch features IP68 and 5ATM ratings, ensuring it can handle both dust and submersion.
- Connectivity: Includes NFC for Google Wallet and LTE support for on-the-go connectivity without a phone.
One notable design choice is the inclusion of standard 22mm spring pin lugs, allowing users to swap out the stock silicone or leather bands for any standard watch strap of their choosing.
Advanced Fitness and Intelligence
Motorola is bridging the gap between lifestyle and performance by partnering with Polar for its health and fitness suite. The integration offers users deep insights into activity goals, heart rate intensity zones, sleep tracking, and wellness metrics. Furthermore, the device introduces the company’s new “Qira” AI assistant, aiming to provide a more intuitive and responsive interface for daily tasks.
Availability
The Moto Watch Ultra will be available for unlocked purchase on September 10 for $349. Verizon customers can get their hands on the device starting September 24, with availability expanding to other major carriers, including T-Mobile, Metro, and AT&T, in the following weeks.
A Stylish Addition to the Razr Line
Alongside the smartwatch launch, Motorola also unveiled a premium, fashion-forward version of the Razr (2026). Retaining the core specifications of the base model, this special edition features a sophisticated dark grey finish adorned with genuine Crystals by Swarovski on the rear panel. This limited offering will retail for $899 and is set to hit shelves on September 10, coinciding with the launch of the new wearable.
