Improvement works to upgrade Queen’s Gardens and enhance the surrounding natural environment along Kingshurst Brook are underway in Chelmsley Wood.
The project will deliver a series of upgrades designed to improve accessibility, celebrate local heritage, and create a more attractive and welcoming environment for residents and visitors.
The Queen’s Gardens commemorative stone and plaque marking the 1971 visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be carefully restored and repositioned and complemented by new natural stone features arranged in a contemporary henge-style design.
The enhancements will also include refurbished noticeboards and improved wayfinding to strengthen connections to Meriden Park, the Green Man Trail and other local routes, as well additional seating, litter bins and environmental improvements.
These works are set to last up to six weeks and are being funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
Alongside these public realm improvements to the park, Solihull Council is working separately with the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust to deliver river restoration measures along Kingshurst Brook. These will include bankside tree management, removal of debris, bank reprofiling and berm creation to help protect the watercourse and support local biodiversity.
The project forms part of the wider Your Future Chelmsley Wood programme, which aims to support health, wellbeing, and sustainability through community‑driven improvements.
