Ogbourne CofE Primary School has been awarded the Eco-Schools Award with distinction, recognising its efforts in embedding sustainability.
The school was especially praised for its Psalm 23 Reflection Garden, a wildflower space that promotes biodiversity and offers pupils a quiet area for learning and reflection.
Lucy Crump, principal at Ogbourne CofE Primary School, said: “We’re delighted to receive this recognition, which reflects the superb efforts of our entire school community.
“As our climate continues to change, we remain dedicated to learning, adapting and taking positive action to protect our environment.”
Eco-Schools assessors noted that sustainability is integrated across the curriculum.
Pupils took part in ‘Carbon Free November’, adopted waste reduction measures, and introduced reusable materials in classrooms to cut down on single-use items.
The school has also prioritised water conservation by installing water butts and using collected rainwater for play activities.
Future plans include creating rain gardens and harvesting rainwater from the school’s flat roof.
Ms Crump said: “As part of the next stage of Ogbourne’s Eco journey, all pupils will take part in workshops to learn how to care for, and maintain the Reflection Garden.
“This will help keep caring for the environment at the heart of school life, both within and beyond the school gates.”
The school plans to continue expanding its sustainability initiatives in the coming academic year.
