Proms Passion: Humberston Braces for 18th Year of Musical Magic

A long-standing local tradition is set to return to Humberston once again, as the popular ‘Last Night of the Proms’ concert prepares for its 18th anniversary performance. What began in 2008 as a modest, one-off community event has blossomed into a staple of the local cultural calendar, with this year’s installment scheduled for Saturday, November 18.

Hosted in the Starlight Suite at The Beachcomber Entertainment Centre, the evening will feature the acclaimed Lincolnshire Hospitals Band. This year’s performance, themed ‘Going for Gold’, holds extra significance as it serves as a grand celebration of the band’s 50th anniversary.

Beyond the music, the event is deeply rooted in local charity, with all proceeds from this year’s concert pledged to the Sunflower Children’s Action Group.

Trevor Grayson, Vice-Chairman of the event’s organizing body, Humberston Happening, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming show. “This very special band always puts in an amazing amount of work and thought throughout the year to produce this prestigious event for your pleasure and enjoyment,” Grayson said. “The results of their efforts are there for us all to see, hear, and appreciate.”

The evening will also feature the return of celebrated vocalist Felicity Turner, whom organizers describe as a “shining star” and a long-time favorite of the event. Furthermore, attendees will see a change in leadership on the podium, as the band welcomes conductor Ian Mitchell for the first time.

“Ian is a very experienced and charismatic musician and conductor. We are very fortunate to have him with us,” added Grayson. “So please come along and take this golden opportunity to join us and experience this unique popular and joyous musical extravaganza, with a traditional rousing, patriotic finale.”

Doors for the event will open at 6:00 pm, with the performance scheduled to commence at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are priced at £12 and can be purchased at several local outlets, including the Cleethorpes Pearl Guest Services Office, The Gingerbread House in Humberston, PC Coaches in Cleethorpes, Harriet’s Restaurant, and Crystal Tranquili-Tea in Grimsby.

For those unable to visit these locations, tickets can also be secured by contacting organizers directly. Inquiries can be made by calling Trevor Grayson at 01472 812543 or Enid at 01472 814147. Alternatively, requests can be sent via email to proms@humberstonhappening.com.

With its blend of classic repertoire, patriotic finales, and charitable spirit, the 18th annual ‘Last Night of the Proms’ promises to be a golden milestone for the Humberston community. Residents are encouraged to book early to ensure their spot at one of the region’s most enduring musical traditions.
