Rakul Preet Singh Amused by Paparazzi’s ‘Ramayana’ Slip-Up, Corrects Mispronunciation of Surpanakha

Mumbai, India – Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh, who is set to portray the complex character of Surpanakha in Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated mythological epic ‘Ramayana’, had an amusing encounter with the paparazzi in Mumbai on Monday, August 17th. The actress, spotted in Andheri, found herself in a light-hearted exchange as photographers repeatedly mispronounced her character’s name, leading to a moment of shared laughter.

The incident unfolded as photographers vied for Singh’s attention, calling out her character’s name with an incorrect pronunciation. Initially, the actress appeared amused by the repeated mix-up. However, she soon decided to step in and gently correct them. With a wide smile, Singh clarified, "Surnapakha nahi, Surpanakha," while playfully trying to suppress her laughter. Her graceful handling of the situation, opting for humor over annoyance, was captured on camera, quickly circulating online and endearing her further to fans.

This recent interaction comes after Singh had previously shed light on her decision to take on the challenging role of Surpanakha. On August 3rd, responding to a fan’s letter on X (formerly Twitter), she expressed her appreciation and explained her motivations. "Thank you for this beautiful letter," she wrote. "What made me say yes to Surpanakha was exactly what you mentioned – her complexity. History often remembers her for one moment, but there is so much more to her story." Her comments hint at a deeper exploration of the character, moving beyond the conventional portrayal and delving into the nuances of Surpanakha’s narrative.

‘Ramayana’, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari, boasts an star-studded ensemble cast. Ranbir Kapoor is slated to play the revered Lord Ram, with Sai Pallavi stepping into the shoes of Sita. The formidable role of Ravana will be essayed by Yash, while Sunny Deol will portray Lord Hanuman. Other prominent cast members include Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Arun Govil as King Dasharath, and Lara Dutta as Queen Kaikeyi.

The epic, divided into two parts, is scheduled for a grand theatrical release. ‘Ramayana: Part 1’ is set to premiere during Diwali 2026, followed by ‘Ramayana: Part 2’ during Diwali 2027. Producer Namit Malhotra previously revealed the monumental scale of the project, stating that the two films combined carry a staggering budget of approximately USD 500 million, equivalent to over Rs 4,000 crore, promising a cinematic spectacle unlike any other.
