Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is gearing up for one of the most ambitious projects of his career. The actor is set to headline a high-budget superhero film titled The Last Hero, a collaboration with the acclaimed director duo Raj & DK that promises to break the mold of traditional Hindi cinema.
A Departure from Tradition
Unlike the conventional, flashy superhero origin stories that dominate the genre, The Last Hero reportedly focuses on a weary, aging crime-fighter forced out of retirement for one final, high-stakes battle. This grounded, gritty narrative serves as a departure from the larger-than-life, indestructible personas typically associated with Salman Khan, offering audiences a more nuanced performance.
To ensure the film meets global standards, the production team is reportedly in talks with Weta FX—the legendary studio behind some of Hollywood’s most iconic visual effects spectacles. Backed by producer Atul Agnihotri and potentially partnering with Mythri Movie Makers, the film is being designed on a scale rarely seen in Indian cinema. While rumors have circulated regarding a potential role for Kareena Kapoor Khan, her involvement has yet to be officially confirmed.
Production Timeline
The project has undergone some scheduling shifts. While initial reports pegged the start of principal photography for January 2027, updated industry insights suggest that filming could begin as early as October 2026, following an extensive pre-visualisation phase. Raj & DK, who have enjoyed massive success on streaming platforms with The Family Man and Farzi, are currently completing the second season of Farzi before shifting their focus to the pre-production groundwork for The Last Hero.
A Packed Calendar
Before donning his cape, Salman Khan has a busy slate ahead. He is currently filming a high-octane action entertainer directed by Vamshi Paidipally, tentatively titled Monster (or SVC63). Co-starring Nayanthara, this project is already targeting an Eid 2027 release. Furthermore, the actor continues his long-standing commitment to the Bigg Boss franchise, with the 20th season of the reality show also on his docket.
Compassion Behind the Scenes
Amidst his rigorous work schedule, Salman Khan recently made headlines for his support of his long-time body double, Parvez Kazi. After Kazi suffered a health scare on August 6 during the Mumbai shoot of Monster, Salman stepped in to ensure his colleague received immediate and quality medical attention.
Kazi’s manager dismissed social media rumors of a heart attack, confirming instead that the stunt performer underwent a minor procedure and is currently recovering well. The production team has since reorganized the stunt schedule to allow for Kazi’s recovery, with the actor maintaining his support for Kazi, whom he reportedly views as a younger brother.
