Welsh first minister loses seatpublished at 17:20 BST

Elunend Morgan, the Welsh first minister, lost her seat
It has been a while since we took a look at what is
happening elsewhere in the UK, so let’s go around the grounds, so to speak.
In Wales, the Labour first minister has lost her seat, with Plaid
Cymru now expected to be the largest party in the Senedd.
Eluned Morgan, who will step down as the party’s leader, dropped to fourth in Ceredigion Penfro, behind
Plaid, Reform UK and the Conservatives – becoming the first leader of a
government in the UK to lose their seat while in office.
Polling expert Prof John Curtice said it was unlikely that Plaid
would reach the 49 seats needed for a majority, but they “may not be far away”.
Current predictions put them at between 41 and 46, with Reform
taking between 32 and 34 seats.
In England, meanwhile, Reform have gained more than 900 new
councillors and control of six new councils, including Sunderland in the north
east and Havering in London.
Labour have lost more than 700 councillors and control of 15
councils.
The Greens have also picked up two mayoral votes, in
Lewisham and Hackney in London.
