Actor and producer Sohum Shah, who captured audiences with his breakout performance in the 2018 folk-horror cult classic, has begun production on the highly anticipated sequel, Tumbbad 2 – Pralay Aayega. As filming kicks off, the actor took a poignant trip down memory lane by revisiting the film’s most significant location: the atmospheric, decaying wada.
A Sentimental Homecoming
Sohum Shah shared a series of evocative photos on Instagram, capturing himself seated on the very staircase of the wada that served as the heart of the original film. With the structure’s weathered, iconic front door serving as the backdrop, the images instantly transported fans back to the eerie, rain-drenched world of the original cinematic masterpiece.
Reflecting on the emotional weight of the moment, Shah captioned his post in Hindi: “Years later, I’m back in the shade of that same wada, where this entire journey began.”
For fans of the franchise, the wada is far more than a mere filming set; it is a character in its own right. Its crumbling architecture and historical aesthetic were integral to the film’s success, providing the perfect stage for the story’s dark, folklore-driven narrative. Produced under the banner of Sohum Shah Films in collaboration with Pen Studios, the sequel shifts behind the camera as well. While Shah co-directed the 2018 original, the directorial reins for Pralay Aayega have been handed to Adesh Prasad.
